The Scientific Basis of
TWA Aqua Technology

TWA Aqua Technology relies on several interconnected scientific principles to achieve its water purification and rejuvenation effects. The core of the technology lies in the unique properties of the TWA catalyst and its interaction with water and pollutants.

Catalytic Ionization

The TWA catalyst, composed of specifically formulated proprietary catalytic materials, acts as a source of negatively charged ions. When water flows through the catalyst bed, the catalyst facilitates the release of these ions into the water. This process, known as catalytic ionization, is crucial for the subsequent steps.

Disruption of Hydrogen Bonds

Water molecules are held together by hydrogen bonds, which give water its unique properties. The negatively charged ions generated by the TWA catalyst disrupt these hydrogen bonds, causing water molecule clusters to break down into smaller units. This increases the water’s surface area and enhances its ability to interact with and dissolve substances. Smaller water clusters also facilitate better penetration into soil and plant cells in agricultural applications.

Electrostatic Neutralization

Many pollutants in water carry a positive charge. The negatively charged ions released by the TWA catalyst neutralize these positive charges through electrostatic interactions. This neutralization destabilizes the pollutants, preventing them from re-bonding with water molecules and facilitating their removal through filtration. This process is particularly effective for removing heavy metals, ionic hardness, and certain types of organic matter.

Oxidation and Reduction (Redox) Reactions:

The negatively charged ions generated by the TWA catalyst can also participate in redox reactions, which involve the transfer of electrons. In some cases, these reactions can lead to the oxidation of organic pollutants, breaking them down into less harmful substances. The optional addition of an air injector and the subsequent generation of nascent oxygen (O⁻) further enhances these oxidative processes, contributing to the breakdown of residual pollutants and increased dissolved oxygen levels.

Changes in Colloidal Stability

Some pollutants exist as colloidal particles, which are tiny particles suspended in water. The negatively charged ions from the TWA catalyst can alter the zeta potential of these colloidal particles, which is a measure of their surface charge. By reducing the zeta potential, the catalyst destabilizes the colloidal suspensions, causing the particles to aggregate and become easier to remove through filtration.

Enhanced Biological Activity (in specific applications)

In applications like pond and lake remediation, the increased dissolved oxygen levels resulting from the TWA process can promote the growth of beneficial aerobic bacteria. These bacteria play a crucial role in breaking down organic matter and restoring the ecological balance of the water body.

The Synergistic Power of TWA Aqua Technology

TWA Aqua Technology’s effectiveness stems from the synergistic combination of these scientific principles. By working in concert, these processes effectively purify and revitalize water without the need for harsh chemicals, providing a sustainable solution for various water treatment challenges.
